About
SBC is a community-focused church committed to supporting individuals and families experiencing financial hardship, food insecurity, and social isolation within the local community. As part of our outreach and community support work, we operate a weekly Food Hub every Thursday, providing food parcels, groceries, toiletries, and essential household items to people in need.
The Food Hub was established in response to the increasing cost of living pressures affecting many households, including low-income families, unemployed individuals, pensioners, refugees, single parents, and vulnerable residents. We recognised that many people in our local area were struggling to afford basic necessities, and we wanted to create a safe, welcoming, and dignified environment where practical support could be accessed without judgement.
Our aim is not only to provide emergency food and essential supplies, but also to promote hope, wellbeing, community connection, and social inclusion. Through our work, we seek to reduce hardship, support vulnerable individuals, and strengthen community resilience.
Product and Services
SBC currently operates a weekly Food Hub every Thursday, providing free or low-cost food, groceries, toiletries, and household essentials to members of the local community experiencing financial difficulties.
Our services and activities include:
Distribution of food parcels and groceries Provision of toiletries and hygiene products Support for individuals and families facing financial hardship Signposting and referrals to additional support services where appropriate Community engagement and informal wellbeing support Volunteer opportunities for local residents and church members
In addition to the Food Hub, SBC also provides pastoral care, community support, and activities designed to encourage inclusion, wellbeing, and positive community relationships. We aim to continue expanding our support services as demand within the community increases.
Market
Our Food Hub supports people within the local community and surrounding areas who are experiencing financial hardship, food poverty, or social isolation. Beneficiaries include:
Low-income families Elderly residents and pensioners Single-parent households Unemployed individuals Refugees and vulnerable migrants People affected by the rising cost of living Individuals facing temporary financial crises
The project primarily serves residents within our local area and surrounding neighbourhoods. Demand for support has continued to increase due to inflation, rising food prices, and economic pressures.
We estimate that the Food Hub directly benefits dozens of individuals and families each week, with many more indirectly benefiting through improved wellbeing, reduced financial stress, and stronger community support networks.
Marketing and Publicity
We promote our Food Hub and community activities through a combination of:
Word-of-mouth referrals Social media platforms Community outreach Partnerships with local organisations, churches, and community groups Flyers and posters within the local area Announcements during church and community events
We actively engage with beneficiaries and supporters by maintaining a welcoming and inclusive environment where people feel respected and valued. We also encourage volunteering and community participation to help strengthen relationships and increase awareness of local needs.
As the project grows, we plan to further expand our online presence and community partnerships to reach more people who may need support.
Competition
There are other food banks and community support organisations operating locally; however, SBC provides a unique community-based and relationship-focused approach. Our Food Hub offers not only practical assistance but also compassion, encouragement, dignity, and a sense of belonging.
What makes our project different includes:
A welcoming and non-judgemental environment Strong community relationships and local trust Personalised support and engagement A focus on reducing social isolation as well as food poverty Flexible support tailored to local needs The involvement of dedicated volunteers who genuinely care about the wellbeing of beneficiaries
We aim to create a supportive community atmosphere where individuals feel valued, heard, and encouraged, rather than simply receiving emergency aid.

The project is overseen by the church leadership team, who provide governance, direction, and accountability. Day-to-day activities are managed by dedicated volunteers responsible for food collection, sorting, distribution, administration, and community engagement.
Our volunteers bring a range of skills and experience and are passionate about supporting vulnerable individuals and families within the community. We are committed to operating transparently, responsibly, and in the best interests of those we serve.
Notes
The demand for food and emergency support within our community continues to grow significantly due to the ongoing cost of living crisis. Many individuals and families are struggling to meet basic needs, and our Food Hub has become an important source of practical support and community connection.
In addition to providing essential items, we aim to restore dignity, hope, and a sense of belonging for those facing difficult circumstances. We believe that strong communities are built through compassion, partnership, and practical action.
Any funding received will make a meaningful difference and help us continue supporting vulnerable people within our local community both now and in the future.
